Korimako are significant participants in the dawn chorus played out in NZ bush every morning with their bell-like sound. A member of the honey eater family, they have curved bills and long tongues with brush-like tips to reach deep into flowers to gather nectar. On the mainland numbers are low due to predators but on predator free islands off the coasts their numbers are much higher.
